10 Key Self-Reflection Questions Every Man Should Ask Himself
Scripture Focus: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-24
The Power of Self-Reflection
When was the last time you paused to evaluate your life, your faith, and your relationships? As men, we often get caught up in the busyness of providing, achieving, and leading, leaving little room for self-reflection. However, self-evaluation is a powerful tool for aligning your life with God’s purpose. By asking the right questions, you can uncover areas where growth is needed and recommit to God’s path. Here are 10 questions every man should ask himself to become the husband, father, leader, and follower of Christ he is called to be.
1. Is God at the center of my life?
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33
Your priorities reveal where your heart lies. Reflect on whether your decisions, time, and energy revolve around God or something else. If God isn’t at the center, it’s time to realign your focus.
2. Am I leading my family spiritually?
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Leadership starts at home. Are you setting a godly example for your spouse and children? This question challenges you to evaluate your spiritual leadership and make it a priority.
3. Do I steward my time wisely?
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12
Time is a gift, and how you use it matters. Assess whether your daily activities align with God’s calling or if distractions consume your attention.
4. Am I serving others with humility?
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” – Philippians 2:3
Jesus exemplified servant leadership. Are you looking for ways to serve others, or are you caught up in your ambitions? This question helps you refocus on living selflessly.
5. How am I handling challenges and setbacks?
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” – James 1:2-3
Life’s challenges reveal your character. Are you trusting God through trials or allowing fear and frustration to take over? Reflect on how you can grow through adversity.
6. Do my actions align with my words?
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.” – Proverbs 11:3
Integrity means living consistently with your beliefs. Are there areas where your actions don’t reflect your faith? This question encourages honesty and alignment.
7. Am I growing in my faith?
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” – 2 Peter 3:18
Faith is not stagnant. Assess whether you seek spiritual growth through prayer, scripture, and fellowship.
8. Do I have accountability in my life?
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
Every man needs someone to challenge, encourage, and hold him accountable. Reflect on whether you have strong, godly relationships that help you stay on track.
9. Am I pursuing God’s purpose for my life?
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
God has a unique purpose for you. Are you actively pursuing it or letting fear or complacency hold you back? This question prompts action toward living out your calling.
10. Am I leaving a legacy of faith?
“The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.” – Proverbs 20:7
What kind of legacy are you building? Consider how your faith, actions, and decisions will impact the next generation.
