We love to quote Isaiah’s bold declaration: “Here I am, Lord. Send me.” But if we’re honest, many of us relate more to Moses in Exodus 4:13—“Here I am, Lord. Please send someone else.”
Moses was standing on holy ground, talking directly with God, and still tried to opt out. Sound familiar? We may not be facing Pharaoh, but God calls each of us to a mission. And too often, we respond with excuses, fears, or flat-out resistance.
Availability Over Ability
God isn’t looking for the most gifted—He’s looking for the most willing. Moses didn’t feel equipped. He questioned his speaking skills, his leadership, and even God’s choice. But God wasn’t concerned with Moses’ résumé—He was looking for obedience.
You might not feel ready or qualified. But God’s not waiting for perfection—He’s waiting for surrender.
Uncommen Reflection:
Are you saying “yes” to God—or making excuses?
Practical Step:
Pray a simple but bold prayer: “Lord, I’m available. Use me however You want.”
Following God Often Means Losing Control
Trusting God isn’t about having the full plan in front of you. It’s about saying yes before the details are clear. Moses had no idea what lay ahead—plagues, Red Sea crossings, wilderness wandering. If he had seen the full itinerary, he might’ve run.
We’re called to take the next step in faith, not the whole journey at once. When you obey, God equips.
Uncommen Reflection:
Where are you holding onto control instead of trusting God?
Practical Step:
Write down one area of your life you’ve been reluctant to surrender—and give it to God in prayer this week.
Sacrifice Comes with the Call
Moses gave up comfort, safety, and stability to follow God’s call. You might not be trekking through the desert, but you are called to sacrifice. That might mean time, resources, or simply your convenience.
Sometimes, obedience is uncomfortable. But that’s where growth begins.
Uncommen Reflection:
Are you only serving God when it’s convenient?
Practical Step:
Say “yes” to something this week that stretches your comfort zone—volunteer, give, or reach out to someone in need.
Trials Aren’t Punishment—They’re Preparation
It’s easy to assume hardship means you’re doing something wrong. But often, God uses trials to prepare you for something greater. Just as Moses had to grow through challenges, so do we.
God doesn’t waste pain—He shapes us through it.
Uncommen Reflection:
What trial are you facing right now—and what might God be preparing you for?
Practical Step:
Talk to a trusted mentor about what you’re learning in your current season.
Spiritual Discipline Builds Spiritual Strength
Moses wasn’t ready for leadership overnight. Neither are we. Strength in faith is built through consistency—prayer, scripture, community, and humility. The goal isn’t performance; it’s preparation.
Uncommen Reflection:
Are you spiritually training—or spiritually coasting?
Practical Step:
Pick one spiritual discipline—like fasting, journaling, or Bible reading—and commit to it daily this week.
The Enemy of Obedience? Pride.
Pride whispers, “I’ve got this,” or “I’m not enough.” Both sides of the pride coin—arrogance and insecurity—keep us from being fully used by God. Humility, on the other hand, opens the door for deeper impact.
Uncommen Reflection:
Is pride keeping you from surrendering fully to God’s plan?
Practical Step:
Give someone else encouragement this week. Lift them up instead of lifting yourself.
Uncommen Challenge
God used Moses despite his fears, failures, and flaws. And He wants to use you too. The question is—are you willing?
Challenge:
Identify one area where you’ve told God, “Send someone else.” This week, take one action step toward saying, “Here I am. Send me.”
